all the guitars(live i just sort of morphed different parts together to widen the sound as i could never work with another guitarist!!)and backing vocals.most of the hardcore style chanting in there is me!!

i've got the bug back i really have and am pretty much decided i'm getting myself an 8 stringer and pro tools so i can start recording again.

Do so mate! As you may know, i used to be in reasonably good Thrash Metal Band in my younger days. About 5 years ago i got the urge to re-record all of my original material, so I set myself up with a half decent home recording bedroom/studio based around Cubase. Other than the drums which i programme, i do/play everything, and it is amazing how good the final output can be for a relatively small outlay. Its also great fun, but be warned it can very easily take over your life!

didn't know fella, which band?anyone i might know?? when i am ready to start buying some means of recording all the crap floating round in my head i may try and pick your brains a bit as to the best options.it does amaze me now after years ago spending relative fortunes on recording how easy it has become in this day and age! christ, we used to send audio cassettes round to all the labels!!

i actually quite like the idea of programming my own drums and so on and getting that mechanical crisp sound to recordings.stuff like periphery and so on i actually love because of this whereas i played a load of djent stuff to an old pal of mine who is still bang into saxon and priest et al and he nearly choked on his brew!! gave me a load of grief about tesseract being no better in metal than all this autotune stuff in pop.!!horses for courses i suppose but i still fantasize about doing it all myself and have done since i got pretty hate machine back in '89/'90

I'm at work so cannot access Youtube for links, but do a search for Impetus + any of the following song titles - Take A Look, Our Parting Ways, Day One, Lost In A Dream - they will each have an abstract type oil painting thumbnail. Or just look up my userprofile on YT (gbbird) and you will find some of my recent home re-recordings of songs i first wrote and played back in the mid 90s. I might be wrong, but i think there are some of the bands original recordings on there too, from circa 1995.

nice big sound there fella!! not my preferred vocal style(as you can probably tell from my stuff!!!)but nice and heavy! i noticed your youtube quality is at 360 whereas mine is only at 240.what is this and how do i improve it?? the quality of the sound on the cd's i uploaded to the computer is so much better than what actually comes out on the youtube vids.it was a bit of a let down for me losing that element of sound quality because as you can probably tell from the "fans of heavy music" thread i am very anal about production and sound quality!!
i will be at you a bit more about that cubase over the next few weeks as i get closer to actually doing something

Glad you like it. The vocal style is indeed very growly on some, but others such as Our Parting Ways have a much cleaner style going on. I experimented a lot, and not just with vocals. On some tracks i use 'real' guitars mic'ed up through a marshal amp, while on others i use Guitar Rig - i dont care what the purists say, GR really is an excellent piece of software.
Not sure what the youtube quality thing is and was not aware it could be adjusted. I simply took my recordings, added some photos using Windows Movie Maker, then uploaded. The sound quality is much poorer on youtube for me too, and it always will be for non profesionally recorded stuff that has not been mastered, but what can you do? Plus you have to remember that most people will listen to youtube stuff on less than ideal audio equipment, so it will never sound as good. I'll PM you with details of what i did to set myself up with the necessary kit.

YouTube is great and easy to use but the audio quality is poor. It's very good for showing songs to mates on phones or the like as there are loads of apps for it, but whilst it provides the audio, you're better off uploading on to a different website if you're serious about music.

SoundCloud is great and free, for standard accounts at least. It allows you to upload .wav files which are of course, excellent quality. You also get 2 hours worth of music with a standard account and whilst they want you to upgrade to premium, obviously, it's not loaded with ads and is even easier to use than YouTube. The interface is very nice and clean and it's slowly getting apps for phones and the like which means it is still really easy to show to people.
