Lana Del Rey - Video Games

I thought I'd share a little track I've just completed in the last few days, being a House DJ and producer but also a lover of all sorts of music, I couldn't resist remixing the wonderful Lana Del Rey track Video Games, check the link out, hope you enjoy! (Excuse the long intro/outro as it's deliberately been made DJ friendly for mixing purposes.

I'm looking forward to hearing this! (Have to wait until lunchtime) As an amateur dj who plays a lot of house/electro stuff I am BIG into remixes of stuff like this. The Joy Orbison mix of this is great, if a little on the short side for my liking- the progessive tone of that mix would really suit a longish intro/outro yet it's a bit start/stop.

I will report back on this once I've had a listen!

On a related note I was just listening to your "Time to lose it" mix, I know theres a tracklisting below but only being familiar with about half the songs on there I'm having a nightmare matching the song number with the elapsed time!

It's the track that's playing at 35 minutes in... Ta.

Parts of it reminded me of "Fairground" by Simply Red for some reason but having recently taken a liking to Lana Del Rey's album and remixes I rather liked that, great work.

As for the track you're trying to name, around 35 mins a new track starts coming in which is No:9 Jerome Sydenham Feat Atjazz - Natural Spray. A lot of it is playing with a drum loop from the previous track. Hope you're enjoying the mix

Yeah absolutely loving that mix, it's kept me sane through work in the afternoon while the rest of the office was banging out some daytime radio. Some excellent track choices, good to see Wehbba's 'Nature of Time', and 'Futurized Fears' by Moonface in there.

I have to thank John Digweed's radio show for introducing me to Wehbba (with '3 Days') and my other current favourite - Pyscatron, particularly 'Memories of the moment'. Even though I often play slightly more mainstream stuff I love dropping those into mixes.

This mix REALLY takes me back to Ayia Napa last summer- they had a Sushi restaurant/bar with a massive neon lit outdoor terrace, and this sort of laidback house was pretty much all the DJ played, it was amazing.

If you stick any similar mixes (with tracklists!) up i'll be all over it!

From what I've read she's the daughter of a very rich chap, had much of music funded by him and is a bit high-maintenance but I don't want to make friends with her, I'm happy enough listening to the album (and remixes).

While she might have had a hand getting successful she wasnt pushed out by a corporate machine like most pop stars these days. Video Games has been around for about 10 months or so, building up a fan base, and fair play to her for that; it was only when the album was coming out that she was really promoted. Compared to the likes of Cher Lloyd, the Wanted etc then she deserves everything she gets. Find me one act which gets successful without help? They dont exist, even the likes of Adele had to be signed to a record label to be successful. Only different with Lana is that she was financed by a friend.

Personally I'm not fussed how she got here or where she came from. The image of this artist or that artist is something for the media to get their nickers in a twist over, I'm not interested what-so-ever in the person behind the music, I have no desire to be their friend!

I could rant at length about the modern trend of artists selling out their creativity for record sales, but I now find it easier to simply treat recording artists like any other supplier, and discard them once their products are no longer fit for purpose. Heartless I know, but I pay them money, they give me music- and until they start calling me, inviting me to great parties, and come around for the odd BBQ, this will be the extent of our relationship!

Im intrigued as well. As far as I know, her history is pretty simple. She stared out as Lizzie Grant and used to do the open mic circuits, then she moved to Hollywood and got to know a composer who recognised her talent and put her in touch with some record label guys and it all went from there. Yes, to an extent the image is manufactured, the name obviously is a stage name, and the whole thing isnt as small-town girl as it appears, but equally there is no X-factor win or Simon Cowl influence in there to suggest shes too manufactured.

Anyway, do tell. What do you know that others dont?

Its written by someone who is evidently jealous of the success she has had and dislikes anyone with a record label behind them. No point expecting anything different from an 'INDIE' blog; of course they hate anyone successful, its how they maintain their musical difference and superiority over the rest of us mortals who have different music tastes to theirs. The article doesnt contain anything new anyway, its just been filled with spite and regurgitated.

That's pretty much it as fa as it goes. Great though the song is, there's a fat middle aged man with a beard somewhere in the suburban vastness east of LA that was likely responsible for 90% of the song. But I bet he doesn't look as nice in a dress.
