LA singer songwriters, and suchlike

well, I thought i might as well make a thread to fangirl in

But I seem to be drawn to the LA singer songwriter people, and have recently found this documentary.

I have always listened to Jackson Browne, since i heard 'running on empty' when i was 8, but recently i have found Warren Zevon, and to a certain extent Bonnie Raitt (and found wonderland through that)

I think I also class John Hiatt in this, as his music is pretty much unclassifiable (which is apparently one of the reasons you wont have heard of him) I have major love for his music.

all of them the lyrics, and composition are deeply personal, and they tell a story, but have real care put into them, they seem so much more personal than (Some) modern music. (although all of those artists still record, apart from warren zevon, but he's dead...)

so, does anyone else like these people, or have even heard of them? does anyone have any recommendations, listening to a minimum of an hour of music a day tends to burn through a fair few songs smile

Huge fan of Warren Zevon (I have all his albums!). His biography is worth a read too.

Listening to Linda Ronstadt's 70s albums will point you at a bunch of songwriters (including Warren Zevon and Ry Cooder). She had a knack for uncovering talent, as well as a terrific voice.
