Party music help!
Discussion
Having recently - and perhaps accurately
- been called a "cretinous idiot" on another music thread, I am looking to my superiors for help.
As a 39 year old I have long since stopped buying music by new artists, and even when I did it was never what you might call pop (think old rock/grunge/metal/rap/the nasty end of techno/etc.).
I'm having a big party in a few weeks. I've got the booze, food, stereo, guest list, accomodation, etc. sorted, but I don't have any music to put on for the ~8 hours it will last.
Guest list includes my oldest friends, neighbours, 76 year old father and some teenage staff from the local pub.
I intend to assemble a USB stick of music specifically for the party and I am looking for recommendations, as so far I have a bit of paper with "Motown? Disco?" written on it.
Recommendations of individual tracks or whole albums worth acquiring please.

A recent playlist of mine. Some old, some new, some classics, some cheesy, some dance, some slow, you get the idea.
I also suggest getting Spotify. I paid £10 for a months subscription, downloaded it all (offline mode) to my laptop and just pressed play. Its legal too!

i'd say the million dollar question is are you looking for background music or hoping to ramp things up at some point where foot tapping turns to shoe shuffling? If the latter that's something you need to think about in terms of timing....no point in having some floorfillers at a time during the party when no one is likely to appreciate it.
i've done music for parties at home, pub etc where the emphasis is more jukebox style - meaning there isn't a too much of 1 genre at any one time - so that older folks don't get hacked off with stuff they don't like and vice versa.....until a rough time in the evening when gradually foot tapping turns to shuffling....
if you want welcome to ping me a mail and i'll reply with x hrs worth that you can hack around. am fortunate enough to have a DJ based bit of software that will spew out a playlist based on whatever criteria. chrs Mark.

Background music. If anyone starts dancing in my house I'll need a bigger house!i've done music for parties at home, pub etc where the emphasis is more jukebox style - meaning there isn't a too much of 1 genre at any one time - so that older folks don't get hacked off with stuff they don't like and vice versa.....until a rough time in the evening when gradually foot tapping turns to shuffling....
