I appreciate Music is an individual thing but i really DONT GET Elton John. I dont see whats good about his singing OR his songs.....OR HIS PERSONALITY!

For instance...i dont like Queen - but i can see why alot of people think they are good! Freddie was a great Singer and an even better showman and was surrounded by good Musicians.

But Elton John????

Elton stopped making good records around the same time Freddie Mercury did.

Never saw the appeal but then a mate but me a ticket to go (red piano tour)and he was fantastic I know find myself liking the music.
He seemed to really appreciate his audience and was a very good show.

Never a national treasure (RnR msicians have lost 'it' if they ever become one, ent that right Sir Paul?)
Entertaining and listenable up to Captain Fantastic when he started treading water and living down to the hype. The best thing since has been the Lion King soundtrack, at least that was for a more intelligent audience than the rest of his output aimed at the Tracy and Gary young marrieds living in provincial UK's-ville demographic. (Apologies to all PHers who might be called Tracy or Gary and have bought EJ records since 1975)

His music is fine but he's vile, he needs a large slap.

Would now be a good time to post the picture of him "flashing" his rear on a boat?

No, never a good time smile

Has written some good stuff, occasionally sings them well... seems to have lost it of late.

I thought his first three albums were good, Madman across the Water was where it started to come off the rails for me. Queen?, no thanks.

When you say 'of late', do you mean 'for the last 40 years'?

I'm sure in his day he could belt out a great set. Worth a cheesy night out in Vegas I reckon.

However, when playing at the Jubilee concert it seems he's lost his voice & range, which should mean he ought to bow out gracefully and hand the mantle over to someone younger... In you come Jessie!

Ah he most certainly has a few tunes, regardless of how old they are at this stage.

I've changed my mind, I forgive you Elton, please stay, just put Jessie back in the box.

Like most 'elder statesmen of rock' he should've shut up shop a long time ago.

His early stuff is pretty good if not in my all time favourites list (especially when you consider lots of the other ste around at the time), but he's not done anything good since the 1980s.

Best remembered for his early peformances and material (or even his "I'm still standing" era resurgence at a stretch), rather than suffering his latter day performances.

Anyone who reckons the proper Candle in the Wind isn't a well crafted, heartfelt ballad is an idiot, imo.

The Diana-wkfest version on the other hand was an error of judgement...
