Except that this year there is surely one girl who actually has done exactly what he is saying, and another guy who has spent years in bands trying to get a 'break'..We might not find the music to our tastes, and sure, most of the entrants just 'want to be a celeeeebrate', but there is some talent in there, even if the producers do their best to hide it.

I read the BD quote as anyone auditioning for x factor,but hey, like emails, its easy to read stuff in a number of ways..

Not really no If he'd been doing it for 6 months I might agree, but I'd say he's spent the last ten years trying to get a break, doing exactly what Bruce wants people to do.... Learning his craft, and performing.
How many bands are still on their original line up by the time they make it ?
Not that it matters, he's already sold out hasnt he..
I mean, he's to old for the 'youth', and he's destroyed his credibility with older potential 'fans' by going on x factor..
Surely the people Bruce is talking about are the ones with literally no talent, but still think they should be famous and are using 'the music' as a prop to get there, without 'paying their dues' ?

A lot of Bruce's stuff from Tattooed Millionaire and Balls to Picasso is fairly tongue in cheek Still have that tape somewhere
I find Dive! Dive! Dive! fairly amusing though!
A friend shared this image on Facebook and there were thousands of comments. A few said they Bruce didn't know what it was like to try and make it in music - being a world renowned singer. They fail to remember that he spent the late 70's and early 80's playing every hovel, pit and bar in Britain with Samson and his previous bands. Maiden were in the same boat, and I'm pretty sure not all the places they played in 82/83 were palaces either! They certainly "made it" the hard way - by playing anywhere and everywhere to try and build up a fanbase. I feel a lot of the people on X-Factor (not all, I may add) simply think that by getting on TV they'll be famous and have a career. They don't seem to realise the hard work that goes in.

Very cool! KISS were considered rock royalty back then too. As far as I'm aware, Maiden are the only band that KISS have ever supported (since breaking through) - back in Donington '88.

Spot on. I used to collect Maiden concert bootlegs, and they played absolutely everywhere in their early years, they certainly didn't beam down as ready made rock superstars. Even once they'd broken the US, the World Slavery tour was still going to places like Omaha, when most bands in that position would've happily just done a few shows on either coast. They were also playing all sorts of places few other bands would play, especially the Iron Curtain countries. Still doing it today with shows in India and South America and I think even the Middle East. Nice concert listing Here. I can vaguely recall someone compiling a master listing of all known shows based on their world tours back to 1980 and it's an insane amount, and that's before you consider their unsigned and very early days.Gassing Station | Music | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
