Good 'ol music discussion topic - best song not to get to No1, but get stuck at No2. Radio 2 doing a vote for New Year's Day programme. Always look for Vienna in that situation. Interestingly the Radio 2 site (at time of posting) has an image of the wrong Ultravox line-up, with John Foxx

The double A side of 'Stawberry Fields Forever' and 'Penny Lane' is a contender. Although it does depend on how you do the counting as to whether it made #1 or not.

I guess the obvious question is "is there a list of number 2's so I don't think of that great song and then find out it wasn't number 2?"

The answer, obviously, is yes.

Now to hunt through it and find a song I like more than all the other songs in the list.

(Oh, that was just the '90's. There must be more lists! I keep seeing "Los Del Rio" and stuff, christ)

Yes, that was definitely a Number 2.

All of the Spice Girls had solo No1's except Victoria who only had a No2.

Vienna by Ultravox, held off by Joe Dolce, they should win just on that basis to start with.

Always my vote. Was my era too - "I was there" listening in on Radio 1 on whatever lunchtime it used to be only to be disappointed for 3 weeks in a row.

My second vote would go to Sparks "This Town Ain't Big Enough..."

I ended up voting for Ultravox, I was going to vote for Alice Coopers "Poision" but it wasn't listed (I'm still mad about Jive Bunny beating it to the top!).

Vienna is number 1! Pleasant surprise. Thought something more modern and trendy (Adele) or Christmassy (Pogues) might get the vote. Justice!
