I went to see Steve Vai on Monday night at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall.

What a great concert, all 3 hours of it. Lots of variety and even audience participation.

It's my fourth Vai concert and do you know what really struck me about this one? He's such a nice, personable chap and you can see he loves his audiences and doing what he does so well.

Get to see him if you can.

He started quite early, it must have been soon after 8.00, so don't linger at the bar wink

I wish I could catch him somewhere else but I'm off on holiday on Saturday.

I saw Vai a few years ago in Brixton i think, or maybe Hammersmith. Whilst I was impressed at his skill I did find myself getting quite bored, I thought he could learn a lesson or two from Joe Satriani

Funnily enough Vai did start as Satch's student, back in the day, but I don't think he gas anything to learn from him these days.

Unfortunately I'm bit seeing Vai on this tour, but I have seen him live twice before and he was absolutely flawless both times.

Seen both Satriani and Vai.

Satriani was boring if you ask me. Very boring.

Vai was much better - but he clocked in at something like 3 hours and its very difficult to keep a good variety when you are mainly playing instrumentals for that long.
