1st experience with itunes, and it isn't good!

OK, so got my wife an ipod for christmas, wanted to put her music on it as a further surprise. Currently copying everything over from media player into itunes and no album art on it. So I look into it and it says I need to create an account to be able to do that. So I create an account. So I try and get the artwork again. So it says I need to log into the account. So I try to log in and it says that the ID hasn't been used with the iTunes store and I have to review my account info. So I click on review and nothing happens, it just goes back to the store. This is horribly glitchy stuff, I thought Apple were suppose to be the geniuses of intuitive!
Anyone got any ideas how I can sort this out, I'm just glad it isn't wasting my Christmas. Windows Media Player 3, iTunes 0 at the moment...

ok, so it turned out it was going to a page asking me to go and create an account, which I assume I had just done, turns out it wanted payment info before it would let me use it. So there is a credit card I will now have to cancel, how dare they ask for payment info before I even want to order anything. Serious bad taste left in mouth!
possibly, I really don't like people having payment info unless necessary though. It is now bringing up some of the artwork, very slowly. Surprised that Apple seem to be way behind Windows in terms of the interface, speed and ease of finding album art and titles/track names etc from stuff from cd, but then I guess they only care about the stuff you download from them.

Which PJ artwork is it not picking up? I have it for all their albums through iTunes.I have to agree that the software is pretty awful
It is rubbish, put me off using my ipod. Why would I bother when Zune and my Windows phone is a much easier and faster way to do it? Apple have somehow convinced people that their products are amazing, that their software is super-intuitive and everything is an absolute doddle, which is a result of clever marketing at it's best. It ain't the truth!
You do not need to enter credit card details into iTunes. I do not have any, as I just use gift cards.

As for the album artwork, the metadata that iTunes uses is not complete. If it is not finding the album artwork then they are probably 'obtained from a dubious source', or they have been ripped without adding the data on from source.
You do not need to use itunes though. If you have a Windows machine you can use mediamonkey or Sharepod, and on OSX Detune, and the like.
As usual, the nice and helpful folk who just say "it is evil" are in fact nothing of the sort.

You do need a credit card to open an itunes store account, and you need an account before you can get the artwork. I tried not entering a credit card and it wouldn't let me proceed.
Pearl Jam Rearviewmirror - a two disc set you probably never got as it will be the same tracks on your other albums. Still a fairly common album though, and none of them are dubious sources, they were all ripped from my CDs and almost all had album art on windows media library that they were being transferred from

No, you don't need a credit card to open an iTunes account. See my screengrab. I have NEVER had a credit card on the account, I have only ever used giftcards.
How does WMP handle artwork? Is it part of the track ID3/metadata, or done a different way? I rip CD's, get them 'online' and so on, and they quite happily add straight with artwork.

I use MP3 tag for files, free and easy to use, you can search for auto album details and artwork or use your own. I've often copied an image from
Amazon and used that as cover artwork.
I use Winamp for i device transfer, has the advantage of being able to download from devices too. Probably takes a little more getting used to than iTunes, but once you get your head round it its fast and less resource hungry/restrictive than iTunes.

I've seen the screen grab, I've also told you the process that I needed to go through to get an itunes store account, without which it will not let you download artwork. Believe me, it does ask you for credit card details and believe me, it won't let you progress off the screen asking you for that info if you leave it blank. I'm pretty sure there was no option for 'none' on payment type when I set it up, nor was this guidance displayed. I was in a rush to set it up but I'm pretty sure I'd have seen 'none' if it was there. There was just a list of different types of credit card and you then had to put in name, card number, expiry, leaving any blank wouldn' let you progress.
Anyway, the experience hasn't got any better, all the tunes that were on compilation cds are listed on the ipod as if they are all from separate albums with the same name, so you can't for example just select a mix cd and get it to play through from track 1 to the last track. Again, not a problem windows media player has.

If you are looking at the 'list' in artist view, then they will show as separate. If you are looking via album view, they will show together. If you label the album artist as 'various' you can use that in 'album artist' view. There is also a 'group by album artist' option in the music settings. Try that in conjunction with 'various'. I have used WMP, and it too has 'album artist', as well as 'artist' and if they are tagged the same in WMP you will have the same problem. The 'variables' are entirely the same.
