To me, Prince never lost his form - He's always been MASSIVELY inconsistant.

50% brilliant, 50% rubbish.

Still gotta love the guy though.

Pretty good - As good as his best? No, but still way better than 99% of what's around at the moment.

I know Prince has hardcore fans and I don't consider myself one, but I always marvel that Michael Jackson is almost universally hailed (I never really liked anything he did - musically - much), whilst Prince remains a bit of niche performer.

Inconsistent is probably fair, although I'd put the percentage at more like 80% great, 20% poor.

You're right, Prince was an absolute genius in the early days. He seems to have been largely forgotten.

I'll have a listen to this when I get in. This is probably blasphemy amongst music lovers but to me he's a bit like Stevie Wonder. Technically brilliant and behind a lot of great songs by other artists but when it comes to their own output I'm always left thinking "meh what am I missing here?"

I know what you mean about with Stevie Wonder, but I don't see Prince like that, although he does come across as a bit of a knob quite often
