Modelling amp choice

Bought my Squier Tele Custom Vibe before Christmas, and been using a Peavey Xport through my Mac since. Got some cash for Christmas towards an amp and been looking at the various modelling amps available to get a wide range of sounds for when i'm jamming at home.

I looked at the Fender Mustang II and the Vox VT40+ and its much of a muchness between them. I have however, been offered a Mustang III used for £120 albeit without the Fuse software. It looks like I can download that for free on the Fender website anyway.

I wasnt intending to buy the bigger model, but does this sound like a decent deal to anyone? Its cheaper than the II new, and not much more than what they are selling for used. Anyone who has the Mustang III be able to comment on ownership? I'm still a poor player at the moment, but hoping that this will be more than enough so I can improve with it.

Despite all of the "versatility" of a modelling amp, I can never find a tone I like. I'm much happier with a small valve amp which only does one thing, but does it well.

I had a Vox tonelab for gigging. Whilst I liked the convenience of one box & the range of effects in it, in the end, I got fed up with the temptation to tweak everything constantly. I came unstuck a few times at gigs with terrible tones that I'd thought were great. Now I use stomp boxes & leave them alone once they're set.

OP - Obviously this depends on your musical preferences but for rock and blues the guitar->lead->amp set up has a lot to recommend it. A tele cries out for a simple approach. I would plug in with gain and volume turned up and control your sound with guitar volume control
