Something is 'Bugg'ing me....

...Jake Bugg (see what I did there?). Is he any good? Heralded by some as 'the next Bob Dylan', but as far as I can tell the only thing the two of them have in common is that neither can sing. The difference is Bugg doesn't appear to have any fraction of the poetic lyrical talent or originality.

, I watched him play last year at Bestival and thought yea he's alright , then watched him again recently and wow for a teenage boy he has a lot of talent, can play guitar to a very good standard and write some very clever songs , very confident on stage.....not got the album as its not my type of music but definitely get the fuss over him

However, as much as I like guitars and guitar based music I just can't get on with this Jake Bugg: He's one of a few artists that have me reaching to turn the radio over to another channel when he comes on with that Lightening Bolt song particularly.
However, for his fans, have a look on the Radio 1 website as he did a live lounge session this week that is probably still available to watch. I have to confess that his 'cover' song had some pretty impressive guitar playing at the end of the song.

I asume he's either related to/been b*mmed by/has somehow blackmailed with dodgy photos someone quite high up at a label or management company, because from the handful of songs I've been unfortunate enough to hear, I can't see how on earth he's better, from a musician, vocal or songwriting point of view than most of the averagely talented poor souls trudging round jam and open mic nights every week in the UK..
If you want a clever lyricist who can play and who doesn't sound like a rip-off of Oasis (who we all know ripped off The Beatles) and the Arctic Kaisers, check out Ginger Wildheart ( http://www.gingerwildheart.net. OK, he can be a little bit sweary (which is why he'll never make it onto mainstream radio!), but he's got a real talent for writing a good tune with a memorable hook.
