I was humming a song I've not heard in 10 years (and remember from errr... 35 years ago) last night and realised there are some songs, which are really not that great and yet I love.

The one that got me thinking of this was "Afternoon Delight" by God knows who (look it up if you care), which was a minor hit in the long hot summer of 1976. It's a terrible song and yet it was so right for that summer and always brings back memories of burning the soles of my feet on the beach.

There are a few others :

"Fernando" by Abba - I don't know why. It has no special memories, except that Abba's greatest album was one of the first I bought. I just like this song, I suppose it shows off the girls' vocals quite well, before they went all Dancing Queen.

"Last Christmas" by Wham! - Naffness personified, but this is my favourite Christmas song (actually I'm a bit of a sucker for Christmas songs all round), but it's the line "but if she kissed me now, I know she'd fool me again" that I love. We've all been there.

I thought of a couple of others last night, but I've forgotten them now, but I'm sure they'll come back.

So, I'm sure nearly everyone has one (at least), so what are the songs you should hate, but secretly love?

M.

Anything by 'Yes'.

Well, anything which falls into the Progressive Rock category really.

Definitely a guilty pleasure of mine.

Was by the Starland Vocal Band. I love the string arrangement on that track.

I would confess to another 70's hit of a similar ilk - Mississippi by Pussycat. A lovely classically American country radio song by a band from....Holland.

Must also confess to some of The Carpenters stuff - Yesterday Once More and stuff like that. Karen was just such a gifted singer and the records are beautifully arranged and produced.

LMFAO's Party Rock Anthem and Pitbull's Don't Stop the Party are two recent guilty pleasures.

To put this into perspective, I'm off to the Whitesnake/Journey/Thunder gig next month!

I Think We're Alone Now by Tiffany...

Remember what the Lemonheads did to S&G's Mrs Robinson? Seem to remember a band doing a similar working of ITWAN and sounding great.

Another 70s cheesy song I quite like but this performance is shocking. I think perhaps he's not singing live and I don't think Starsky drove that.....

Couldn't listen to that walking along outside, it would effect me, I'd be walking along in a strange dancing/mincing kind of way. hehe

Stay Another Day by East 17, it was a big hit at the time I started going out with the O/H and she was away at Uni.
