Acoustic guitar recommendation

I've played for years, have a few electric, so though it time I add an acoustic to the collection.
It would be a dreadnought style guitar, and preferably not electro acoustic, though wouldn't rule it out.

Budget is around 3 to 600 (so £600 then).

Can anyone recommend any brands to look at? I like the look of Faith guitars, but that's as much as I've seen so far.

I've got one of these and the tone is wonderful and it's really easy to play. I'd never heard of them until a friend recommended them...

Tanglewood Sundance range are great. I paid around £450 for a Sundance TW15N.

Very easy action and great sound.

Yamaha make some nice acoustics.

Some lovely choices in you budget from loads of good manufacturers.

Don't rule out elecro, a good one should be no different to play/sound to a straight acoustic, just gives you an option should you ever want it.

I would be looking at quality second hand guitars. Acoustics are more prone to movement due to the strain of the strings, and the elements, than are electrics. So an acoustic that's a few years old, or more, and is still playing well is probably a better bet than a brand new one.

Yup, I've got a TW15 too. Best eBay deal ever, I only paid £108 for it.

I bought one of these through the local paper a few years ago for less that the OP's budget (and then a good bit more having it fettled by a well-known luthier)

Can't go wrong with a Yamaha in my opinion. Many years ago I had an FG160but stupidly sold it to buy an electro-acoustic; when I had a bit more money I replaced it with a Martin, which to my ears was no better than the original Yammy!

I now have a 1980 FG340 and love it to bits - I've learnt my lesson and it's a keeper.

In that price range...I'd go for Martin if you want volume, or Taylor if you want bright/clean.

I've been trying a lot of acoustics in that price range. Martin, Taylor, Yamaha and decided that at that price point Faith seemed to suit what I wanted.

I then paid £60 for a proper setup and fret dress on my old fender and decided to stick with that for a bit.

I'm going to help a friend buy an acoustic in a few weeks, he wants a lag, I'm really looking forward to having a go on one.

I've played a few acoustics from Yamaha, Tanglewood, Takamine etc but none have as good a feel and tone as my Fender Malibu which is about 20 years old now.

I've got a couple of Guild GAD acoustics, both 6 and 12 string. We're about right for budget and sound great.

Takamine make some nice guitars, haven't played the more expensive ones but I have heard good things.

A slight curve ball is the guitar my Dad bought recently - a Breedlove AD20/SM. It is seriously nice, sounds great, plays well, and looks the part. Well worth a look!

I think you need to just get down to the shop and play them all. The right guitar will tell you its the one.

I bought a cheap Squire on ebay and got to grips with the concept of playing and then went in the local music shop and discussed my concerns (thinking I wanted a Mexi Fender with a thin neck) and walked out with an Ibanez which I'm loving (but dont play enough).

My sons play a variety of guitars but their acoustics are Takamine EG260 (never use the E/electic bit) and Yamaha LL6. The Takamine does the job well enough, holds tune, good intonation and so does the Yam, but the Yam sounds beautiful and really is nicely made. Both guitars were bought second hand from music shops so they made good use of their pocket money and didn't pay any more than you would on ebay
