Bon Jovi - Because We Can tour
Discussion
Hi all,
thinking of going to this at the Etihad stadium on the 8th.
I've never been to a concert before, whats the best seating type to get? Standing in the middle of the stadium, or seated on the first tier around the standing pit? Obviously seated is further away from the action, but I'm not sure about standing up in a huge jostling crowd for about 8 hours straight.
Price difference is about £20 more for seated, which I'd be willing to pay if its worth it.
Opinions please?

Bon Jovi concerts are long - everyone one I've been to (5 so far) have been 3.5 hours.
There will be a lot of people there when you arrive, no matter what time you get there - Bon Jovi fans are fiercely obsessive (I married one!)
I am all about getting a seat. Get there on time, rest, drink, eat, use toilets, watch - stand when needed.
However, I have never seen a band as good live - they put on one hell of a show. If you have the stamina(and bladder the size of an football) - get there early and get as close to the stage as possible. Is worth doing once!

Going next wednesday at Cardiff City Stadium. Can't wait!
One quick question - the doors open at four so what time are they likely to be on? I'm a guitar teacher so work in the evenings and will have to cancel some work to go. Don't want to cancel too much as obviously I won't be paid! Not fussed about the support bands.

It seems to have stepped up a gear. Jon & Richie have made various comments about each other,Jon says he called up 30 mins before they were due to go on stage to say he wouldn't be there, rumours were that Jon belittles Richie & is fed up of his 'rockstar' partying too hard & not focusing on the band. Richie reckons that Jon wants to be a solo artist & pull off the stadiums by himself. I can imagine Richie is a bit miffed with the new album, it is a bit more of a Jon's solo album.
So it seems its all a bit tense at the moment. I would be surprised to see Richie come back now, I just cannot see it I am afraid. Phil X doing a great job, and I think Jon is a control freak & it suits him fine to be bon jovi and used hired hands.
I am a bit annoyed with Richie really anyway, he never posts anything, when you have been so busy using twitter etc to sell /promote yourself & your new album you don't just drop out of a tour & post ' its personal' and just drop the feeds like a hot potatoe. I have always been a big Richie fan, have a couple of his guitars, met the guy twice, but really through this whole thing I hate to say it but I have found that he blatantly isn't really concerned for his fan base at all..only times he pipes up is when he is selling something, rest of the time he doesn't bother
Phil X is a great guy, just check out his twitter feed, always posting stuff up,just comes across as a real genuine kind of chap...I might take in a uk show just to see him play, not seem him yet
Anyway google the Richie & jon stories, & I think you will see its got a little nasty now....

Reading the above, this seems to me to be a replay of the hiatus after the Slippery tour back in 87. Richie was fed up of Jon getting all the attention and trying to make it more of a Jon show with a backing band, rather than shows by the whole band.
They got over that tiff, hopefully they can get over this one.
I presume Tico and David are still playing on the tour?

£0.02's worth from someone who was a fan in the big hair days. Bon Jovi have always been about one man's ego. Rumour has it that all contracts with record companies etc are in JBJ's name and everyone else in the band is an employee. Hugh has been the bass player since the earlish 90's when Alec left, but has he ever been seen in promotional pictures for new CD's, tours etc? No. Look at any video; mostly JBJ, a bit of Ritchie and the other three might get a second or two on film.
I don't think JBJ's voice is there any more either, which might explain the boring country rock lite style of recent recordings. If you saw the R2 Maida Vale gig earlier this year, he was really stuggling with the older songs which require more effort to deliver.

Wouldn't mind, but Jon has never been the best singer in Bon Jovi - That and the guitar playing always fell on Richie.
Can understand why he would have a falling out with Jon. (Again!)
Although I don't doubt the skills of the band, why would I want to see Bon Jovi without the man who really made the band the success, whilst Jon takes all the glory.

I saw them on the These Days tour years ago and they were really good that night at the MK Bowl.
jon seems to have more of an a
hole about him these days and they havn't properly rocked since Keep the Faith imho.
there was a recent documentary where they interviewed richie on his yacht, tico on the golf course and jon on his own, they didn't look like a band anymore.
jon singing hallelujah...wtf??? this is supposed to be rock not self indulgnece. At the end of the doc it showed jon leaving the arena in a car on his own looking like what he has become...an ego vocalist with a backing band.
I can never forgive hm for the skid row thing either - but that is old news.
