Iron Maiden 2013 Tour

I'm ready to be ridiculed here, in light of my bon jovi post but having just got back from honeymoon and a 40th birthday combined i thought I would share the most recent Maiden experience.
Venue: Paris, Bercy. Standing tickets.
I would venture to say that given this was my 8th Maiden gig, and whilst the first one is always special and memorable, this was its equal if not better. They were THAT good.
it was not the '88 set replayed in its entirety so no Still Life, no Infinite Dreams (sadly), however, Phantom of the Opera, 2 Minutes to Midnight and Aces High (encore) more than made up for it. Maiden were superb, amazing, fantastic and tight. Alot of older material yes, and none of the self indulgence (a la bon jovi lol) of playing an entire album start to finish.
Stage sets and pyrotechnics in glorious abundence, 3 Eddies and boundless energy. Bruce was vocally on point despite one or two timing errors but hey-ho its live music and I can deal with that. the crowd were fantastic, noisy and we sang eveery word back to Bruce who spoke fluent French to the crowd through out. We even sang happy birthday to Nico about 3 tracks in!
The whole show was a highlight but I would say Phantom, Prisoner, Aces and what has become a real anthem Fear of the Dark were amazing.
no real lowlights but the set didn;t need Afraid to Shoot Strangers - Infinite Dreams would have worked better and made my new wife even happier!
if you get chance, go see them do what they do better than anyone else and finally big raps to Janick. Most of the set being slightly older material had Dave and Adrian as main soloists but that didn't seem to bother him. What a team and what a band!!!

However, am I alone in getting a bit hacked off with Iron Maiden touring venues all over the world, but pretty much ignoring Britain?
Their only appearance this year is Download Festival which I have no desire to go to as apart from IM, modern metal appears to have descended into shouting.
This is a pattern of the last 5/6 years, where they have only toured venues of the UK once and played one offs at Twickenham, Sonisphere and Download instead. Not impressed - let's have a proper tour of arenas acorss the country, especially as the current tour is entitled Maiden England.

Final Frontier tour had a 10 date UK leg, but I know what you mean. I'm the same in not wanting to spend three days in a field listening to dismal metalcore just to see them. Sitting through Trivium at the O2 was more than enough. I suspect it's just a case of the UK being a small market for them these days, combined with not really needing (or indeed wanting) to do loads of dates any more. Would be nice to see more UK dates, but then I balance that with the view they're not getting any younger. Annoying though it is not to have five nights at Hammersmith or several at Wembley Arena, I'd rather they did a few big shows on top form than slogged round phoning it in.I expect the next tour to be their last too....
As to final tours, you do wonder when they're going to call it a day. Hopefully we'll get another studio album, a tour to support that and then maybe a last hoorah tour. Might even play Alexander the Great live, who knows! Given their recent approach of touring old albums, the next in line are No Prayer for the Dying and Fear of the Dark. Individual songs aside, not sure there's as much love for that era as the stuff before, so that might be a fitting end point. They're certainly not going to do an X Factor / Virtual XI retrospective. Sure they'll live on as a band after calling it quits, as the brand is simply too strong. The Maiden collector in me salivates at the thought of what unheard material they're holding. I spent many years collecting Maiden bootlegs and one of the most notable things is how little unreleased studio stuff is in circulation. There are loads of shows, but next to zero studio outtakes, rehearsals or alternate version material. That stuff was always the Holy Grail of collectors, but it just isn't out there, suggesting they run a very tight ship.
I saw maiden a few years back (06/07 maybe) and they played a matter of life and death all the way through, they played faultlessly but wow was it dull. No classics, at all! Was a big maiden fan before that but lost a lot of passion for them after that.
Guess I just went to the wrong gig!

I missed that tour deliberately for that reason.
Voodoo Six were pretty good in Paris if a bit ploddy and samey. the final frontier tour was ok but not the best setlist. The year before that was better as they only played a couple off TFF.
we took the view recently that (sheffield aside) to avoid festivals we'd go abroad to see Maiden metallica etc hence Paris and Dublin for gigs and jolly nice places to boot - if a tad expensive and funny money

Horses for courses, but have to say they bored me senseless. No crowd interaction and everything felt far too polished, deliberate and interchangeable. That's a gripe I have with that style as a whole to be honest, so might be a touch unfair on Trivium individually, but just lacked feeling for me. Too neat and tidy. To their credit, they weren't as tedious as Avenged Sevenfold at Twickenham.Marvindodgers said:
