There is only one answer to this question;
Jellyfish
Basically the band they couldn't market.
Bizarre hippy image + the drummer was the lead singer + some of the worst videos known to man = a few minor hits and then obscurity after two albums.
But some of the songs, oh Lord, some of the songs..
Genius.

I saw Headswim live a couple of times, they had a great following but it never translated to CD sales.
My nomination would be 90s girl duo Pooka. Hardly a week goes by I don't listen to something by them. Amazing harmony vocals, great songwriting, but like someone else above said, maybe a difficult act to pigeonhole, and thus market.

yeah that was them, that song was too upbeat for them the slow brooding songs were them at there best.But just goes to show, all the airplay in the world won't necessarily make you successful.

Gene were feted weren't they? I always thought Martin Rossiter had a weak voice although I liked their soulful sound.But just goes to show, all the airplay in the world won't necessarily make you successful.
Anvil - you have to feel for them, started off with the world at their feet & ended up overtaken by worse bands & just can't cut their losses. I found the documentary very moving & frustrating by turn.

Honeycrack were brilliant, but possibly not fittng into any obvious genre, so difficult to find a market. But there isn't anything on Prozaic that isn't a gem.I don't know why they folded so quickly after such a good start, but assumed they were re absorbed back into The Wildhearts.
Me ? As ever, I'll nominate Fashion, and also the godfathers of Britpop, Diesel Park West.
Yes, I agree with Fashion but no way Diesel Park West - journeymen. My nomination would be White & Torch although they did have some airplay so perhaps they just didn't appeal to enough people. Obviously there is a big difference between being good/competent and being successful (good recent examples are Oceansize and Pure Reason Revolution). Usually the problem is a lack of decent tunes, a problem which hinders many, many otherwise competent bands. Sex Pistols had great tunes but Steve Jones's solo album was devoid of tunes so either Johnny Rotten or Glenn Matlock could come up with a tune.
