Worth a look for a someone into their dub and reggae or not worth the (potential) aggro (coming in from some distance)?

Depends how you mean - you looking to follow the carnival and listen to the trucks or find a event and pay entry?

I went last year and quite enjoyed it all. Good atmosphere. The guys I went with hated it as its really not their thing. If you can get a train cheap enough then why not?

I go pretty much every year. To be honest as I've gotten older I go more just out of routine to see mates as they all live in that area and its a chance got us to all get together. I preferred it when I was younger. Radio 1 had an amazing sound system.

There are some good sound systems. I'm terrible with road names but there's one that plays lots of Latin music that's good. A good one up by the fire station. Rampage if you're younger and like the hype crowds. Basically there's something for everyone. Unless you're a hot headed teenager it's a relatively peaceful weekend out

Thanks - I'm just a sucker for reggae in all it's rawer forms and have always 'remembered' the carnival is on just after it has finished... was in town earlier this week and spotted the Time Out feature, hence the query. I'll have a gander if the weather looks fit smile

Yes, I did - thoroughly good day in most respects. Gladdy Wax did the musical trick for me cool

Also loving the default float spec of HGV, industrial generator unit, bar with every type of rum on optic, and the rest of the space taken up with an unfeasibly large PA system

Only down-side I experienced was due to some pretty chronic over-crowding at certain pinch-points. Not sure how you'd ever stop that given the nature/popularity of the event but did see one or two obviously distressed people, including a couple with a toddler in a push chair who were being shown little consideration... (yeah, I wouldn't have brought the child and buggy along either but they did). Policing also seemed a bit in your face too but I guess that's the legacy of the history.

The carnival was certainly an impressive spectacle and, by and large, seemed pretty well organised and good natured. Definitely one to experience - may pop a few pics in the NHC thread in Photography later smile

I know what you mean about people with buggys and kids. Years ago you'd see people trying to push buggies through the mosh pits at the Radio 1 sound system. I would always think you are an idiot parent. Just walk round. But such is life.

I had a chilled one this year. The missus kind of guilt tripped into tagging along. Her mates couldn't make it so we went out together. Instead of my normal day out with the boys. Got to say it was one of the nicest years I've been to if not for the fact we haven't really been out much on our own since the baby came.

Pineapple Tribe lot always put on a decent rig and same as last year, it was rammed.

Found a decent house sound system but can't remember whose it was, wasn't expecting that at NHC.

I was trying not to look and get caught out.

You think?

Most crumpet I saw was somewhat on the large side.
