After pondering the internet for a week I decided to make one

Crafted from an off cut of plywood it cost me, £3 for some feet.
I also modded my wah with a true bypass and some tone mods. Makes a great improvement.
Just need some talent now !

Very nice, I was just lamenting the loss of my Digitech Whammy, I had the same model as that and sold it a few years back.
Good work on the pedal board. A friend of mine has one of these plastic briefcase affairs with built in jack sockets and power supply. It's pretty cool, if a little inelegant. He gigs regularly though, so it's a good way of moving his pedals around without having to dissemble the whole thing.
Personally, I've never owned enough pedals at once to warrant making a board!

As soon as you have more than one, it's worth it. I've gigged with the whole lot in a Tesco carrier bag (not good) and roadied for a guy with the same number of pedals on a board, which is far, far better. davidd said:
That's what I was intending to build, however being idle!
Need to try different od pedals now, the sd1 is a little harsh... I might mod it (keely mod) or get a joyo.. Thoughts?
Dunno the SD1. I do know that I like the Tubescreamer. Depends where you want to be I suppose, but it is regarded as a classic pedal.Need to try different od pedals now, the sd1 is a little harsh... I might mod it (keely mod) or get a joyo.. Thoughts?

The sd1 mod gives it a tubescreamer option. It is great on the big ac50, on the smaller amps it feels a little harsh. I tried an mxr Zakk Wylde od, that was even worse.I've had multi fx & now I'm on pedals. What I found with multi fx boards is there is usually some form of drawback built in - no silent tuner, awkward bank changes, difficult switching for certain effects like wah wah for example & normally they come with everything cranked up to 11. With pedals, you're tied to the settings unless you're prepared to bend down between songs & fiddle with your knob - ooer missus.
So unless you go high end, you're compromising either way to a degree although I did watch an interview with Johnny Marr in which he said he plays live with a Roland GT100 board as he believes people don't pay to see a guitarist staring at his feet all night. That is interesting & I might check one out but I find it pays to be absolutely certain that if you're going down that route, the board will do what you need it to live.

Like you I have never got on with multi effects - had a few and have exactly the same issues you describe. The CM is a 'mechanical' multi fx - switches in mixtures of the pre-selected individual fx's on each of it's 8 channels. I find I don't really use more than 8 'different' sounds in any case.

I like the look of that, I was thinking of going that way myself at some point (although I was thinking of using..something like this..

I had a Vox Tonelab LE which was pretty good, but I found for example that to use the wah, you had to click onto the patch & sometimes the bank, then onto the foot rocker itself & then to come out of it, click the switch on the patch bank. It was cumbersome at best.
Another drawback is the sheer temptation to fiddle with things. Once you offer patch editors with 40 different amp combinations, any number of effects & pre amps & all the rest of it, you find that you're never quite satisfied with what you create & the tendency is to overdo it.
Pedals do take that away in large part.
