Three albums and out.

Wondering how many bands I've liked after the third album, there's not many.

Here's a comprehensive list;

1, Black Sabbath. 5 albums.
2, Motörhead. 5 albums.
3, Nomeansno. 4 albums.
4, Slayer, maybe?

That's it. Three good albums is the limit as far as I'm concerned, usually the first three.

Debatable... I'm in two minds if I like it or not, the production is awful. Metallica certainly have at least 4 classic albums though!

Certainly:

Marillion
Led Zep
Soundgarden
Megadeth

For me, all of the above produced albums that were as good as, if not better, than their first. Actually, looking at the list again I'd say they got better up to a point. Marillion's high point was Clutching At Straws; Led Zep was probably Led Zep IV; Soundgarden's best was Superunknown, and Megadeth's was Countdown to Extinction. All IMHO.

Pearl Jam? Albums #1 (Ten) and #2 (Vs) were sensational. #3 (Vitalogy) was - for me - more miss than hit, yet #4 (No Code) was utterly fantastic.

Absolutely, all the way up to Flash/Hotspace were fantastic, those two were interesting. Picked back up again after!

Rush - I'm massively biased and really like their electro 80s phase but their last few albums have been back to their best.

My three albums and out nomination - Simple Minds, if you ignore the first album you get 'Empires and Dance', 'Sons and Fascination/Sister Feelings Call' and 'New Gold Dream'. After that - meh.

However, some bands don't hit their stride until the third album, or after.
