Janelle Monae on Later last night
Discussion
Did anyone see Janelle Monae on Jools Holland last night? What a performance! Don't get me wrong, she's an attractive girl, but it's a performance in the James Brown school, with the band taking a full part, not sex & titilation like Rhianna or Beyonce. I'm not usually an r'n'b type fan, but by crikey Janelle and her band made a splendid sound. I've been straight onto Spotify to give her new album a listen. It's a splendid thing, stretching way beyond the usual cliches of modern r'n'b.
I'd highly recommend checking out iPlayer for last nights show.

She was stunning at glasto in 2012, not there in person but really great show, great voice, really awesome live.I'd highly recommend checking out iPlayer for last nights show.
As proper musicians should be.
(Although in defence of Rihanna, I once saw her live show on TV and thought it was quite good, she always seem to let the session guitarist have more presence than you'd expect, I was even surprised to hear her let him do a solo! But Beyonce's a hack)
Love Janelle Monae, a few good clips of her here too - http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=128...

Her guitarist is Nuno Bettencourt, who was famous before she was even born (probably; I've no idea how old she is).AdeTuono said:

Brilliant cover of the Jackson's 'I Want You Back'. http://youtu.be/bqBXXEpvgF8
I love the way she's obviously enjoying herself so much.
Very slick and charismatic young lady. 'Tightrope': http://youtu.be/pwnefUaKCbc

I think that's one of the reasons that 'Later......' works so well, exposing artists that would normally pass you by. Cat Power was another. I don't normally listen to that genre, but enjoyed a few of hers.
Also works the other way, by showing that some of the biggest names are over-hyped. Anyone see Kanye West last week? Painful!!!!
