For anyone interested:

Two albums to come, and tour dates to be announced. Looking forward to hearing further updates, but for now this is excellent news.

Bloody oxygen thief. Never understood the fascination with the dull opinionated tit.

ETA and yes I do see the irony.

There seems to be a lot of hero worship for a guy who wasn't even the best musician in the band that made him famous...

Not listened to much of his more recent stuff but a lot of his early solo work is up there with the smiths.

I know he's like Marmite, and I personally don't agree with many of his views (several of which I suspect he just says to provoke a reaction), but I just love his music, or more specifically the lyrics he puts to music.

You Are The Quarry was fablous, IMHO. He'd definitely get a seat at the table of my fantasy dinner party, right next to Hitler. Should be lively! smile

He wrote this charming man, or rather the lyrics, so it wouldn't be called this charming man if he hadn't of ruined it! Or do ya mean he ruined marrs music by singing this charming man over the top of it?
Either way, not keen on his interviews or some things he bangs on about but I do love the smiths! Even going to see the Smyths on Friday in Stourbridge smile

Reading his autobiography finished off any respect I used to have for him.

Horrendous. The word you're looking for is horrendous.

I was going to challenge the people on this thread, but then a strange fear gripped me & I just couldn't ask.

Oh, crap. I'd heard he was writing a novel and thought "great, if he's doing that, he's not making records".

Good stuff. I enjoy his music immensely. Seen him in concert about 5 times and they have all been good. Look forward to the next tour.

It's a great tune, ruined by his awful lyrics about a homosexual encounter.

And yet in context, in the month it charted, number one was occupied by Culture Club & Karma Chameleon. What would you have the lyric be? Loving would be easy if your colours were like my dream...red, gold & green?

I'll stick with Morrisey, thanks.

I was expecting his record deal to be two for one at HMV.

The Smiths were a brilliant band. His early solo stuff was up there. His latter music was poor and as a person, he's a complete t1t and shouldn't be given air time on music shows to spew out his rediculous views. IMHO.

About anything other than homosexual encounters, would be a start. I'd rather it was an instrumental, actually, as Morrissey is an awful singer.

Why not about a homosexual encounter? Why is that not fit for a song? In any event, it's more about the protagonist's anxieties than anything else.

But putting that to one side, pop is an endless diet of lyrics about 'love', whatever that is, often sung by pre or just about pubescent teens. A homogeneous diet of production line throwaway bubble gum nonsense is a distant second in my eyes to someone who writes songs examining the human condition & references Anthony Shaffer in his lyrics.

Morrisey may well be a tool of the first water, but he has the soul of a poet & people who fail to see that & talk about morose lyrics & a terrible voice are alright - they leave the thinking & appreciation to the rest of us.
