ESP at Namm, biblically bad guitars...

ESP has been doing these for some years. You see many in high-end Japanese dealer shops. Just for collectors and press interest, I'd guess.

Nothing that the ESP custom shop haven't been churning out for years now. They obviously aren't marketed as ergonomic, player friendly guitars, they are piece of art built around a guitar. The reason they're at NAMM is because they're eye-catching talking points, and they show off the talents of the luthiers ESP employ.

Overall, I think ESP had a pretty good showing at NAMM, Jackson too. Fender's new solder-less pickups and personality card features are awesome, but Ibanez had the strongest stand again imo. So many 7s, 8s and even 9s this year. I'd be surprised if 9s take off in the way that 8s have, and in turn, I'll be surprised if 8s turn out to be as enduring as 7s, but Ibanez have shown that they really know how to listen to their customers.

The new Ibanez M80M has me salivating with expectation.

Must admit haven't really taken much notice of ESP before now, fair enough.

The Jackson stand was ok, not much grabbed me, the Soloist HSS would have been cool, but the EMGs were a bit of a turn off.

The ESP guitars seen there are pretty standard fare for their Japanese custom shop. If you look on a Japanese ESP dealer website, you'll see a few of them for sale. There was a Japanese band who seemed pretty high profile in their home country, the guitarist of which used a very ungainly looking guitar based around an angel.

However, it has got us talking about ESP guitars, which I expect was their intention.



A shame to see that Jackson haven't done a Shawn Lane signature model either.

Charvel's new signature Jake E Lee looks pretty good, although Id like to have a play on the Guthrie signatures - rather a fan of Guthrie (who isn't?)

I'd have liked to see Jackson do a model 2 charvel, Baretta Kramer, style model with a tremolo bridge, base it on the JS series, bobs your uncle.

Although the Kramer Baretta special is meant to be an absolute steal for what it is, its £135 in uk money! Mahogany body as well, mad price for what your getting.
