I've had a very small sample of a song stuck in my head all day. The trouble is it's just the tune- I can't be certain of any of the lyrics. I think it's from the 80s. The music sounds like quite a low guitar type sound, and the man is singing in quite a drone/monotonous style.
On this virtual guitar/keyboard the brief tune is D D# C.. C D D# C G F F
I know it's a long shot, but I'd appreciate any suggestions as to what song it could be. Thanks.

Thanks for the posts so far.
After the notes above, I think it's C D D# C GG F FF (E or D# but neither sounds right on that website) C D CC
Hopefully the spacing helps with the rhythm? That little section is also about 6 seconds long

OP - any clue as to tempo?
I'm finding it difficult to convey, humming the above notes takes 6 seconds if that helps? After the notes above, I think it's C D D# C GG F FF (E or D# but neither sounds right on that website) C D CC

Thanks for that link Gareth, I have spent some time trying a few of the tools on there but no success so far
You're right Disastrous, it is a Depeche Mode-y type song. I've just gone through all of their singles from the 80s and 90s just in case it was them, but sadly not. The song I'm thinking of is definitely in your mind somewhere though

I can almost hear it but without the rhythm, I can't quite place it. Any chance you can hum it and soundclound it?? It'll be like a real life round of Never Mind the Buzzcocks.
I've just recorded the online keyboard/guitar and uploaded it. I wouldn't want to subject anyone to my humming! Here it is
The first had I'm fairly confident in the rhythm of, not so confident of the second half

Thanks for the suggestions, but it's none of those. I happened to hear Foo Fighters- Everlong last night and some parts of it struck a chord so to speak. I became convinced that it could be a Foo Fighters song that I couldn't quite remember, so I listened to a few seconds of each of their songs. A few have the same style, but none of them are a match.
Sorry Disastrous. I hope this song turns out to be good if we ever find out what it is!

I have that awful feeling this will bug me for days until someone gets it and then I go, "oh, never even heard of it" and realise I was thinking of a totally different song I now can't remember...
Thanks Zb, but that's not it.
That would be pretty funny Disastrous!
This situation is costing me a fortune. I'm being reminded of all these great songs that I've always loved but don't own, "oh New Order, lets have a listen to their other singles, oh - True Faith, I like that, download, Regret, I like that too. Depeche Mode...download. Joy Division... download."
On the plus side, I onc again have some of the music that I probably once bought on vinyl, then again on cassette. At least digital copies are a little more protected from "clear outs"
