Slightly odd question, but how much would you be willing to pay to see an unknown band, as in they've played one pub gig so far. All covers, with support from a completely untried band that has never gigged before.

I ask as I'm in the support band, and apparently we will be playing for a max of 100 people at £5 a head. Seems to me we'll be playing only to people who are there as it's for Charidee ((c) Smashey and Nicey)... I have visions of a room full of local Rotarians and other worthies quaking at the noise from a row of Marshall DSLs and a fairly heavy-handed drummer. Or even worse a room only part full.

Fiver seems reasonable.

Whilst I'd happily pay a fiver if it's for charity, there's plenty bands on my local circuit that play for free (to the punter).
Most I know make a bit of beer/petrol money out of it from the pubs/clubs that put tham on, but all are either doing it as a hobby, or hoping to build up a big following to move on to bigger and better things.

Depends. In London a fiver wouldn't be too odd, but out in the regions I'd be amazed if they could get away with charging at all for a gig like that.
