Hi,

Have owned a lovely Yamaha SF700 for probably 25 years now and it's a keeper.

Whilst i enjoy the heavy humbucker sound i struggle with funk style music in my coversband and don't really want to buy a strat or other single coil pickup guitar to keep swopping between songs.

Without butchering the looks on my Yamaha how can i resolve this, a guitar friend suggested a tech could probably rewire one of the existing pick ups along with one of the existing tone pots to a coil tap type ?

Would the neck or bridge pickup be best and will this work or to get a proper authentic sound or do i really need replace one of the pickups,

+1 for Coil tap. You can switch it with a push/pull pot on one of the volume knobs, and it will be invisible once the work is done.
