Playlist suggestions for a 40th birthday party.

SWMBO has turned 40 and we're having a party but I'm struggling with a playlist as our tastes haven't always coincided.

Over the years she's liked all sorts, Prince and Erasure in the 80s, Blur and Radiohead plus some club stuff in the 90s and then Faithless and Muse more recently. And all along she's liked a good bit of cheesy disco.

So, please make some suggestions, reminisce, give us some YouTube links, and abuse each other (and her) for appalling taste.



ETA I'm planning to play it all through a half decent (15 years ago) amp and speakers using an iPod. Is that going to be ok, or do I need to sort something else out?

Thanks, not heard of that site. Tbh I'm hoping for reminders of hits from her past, with a nod to what she might like. We enjoy(ed) gigs/dancing but often had no idea what was being played.

Last.fm should cough up tune that'll make her shout "OMG! I REMEMBER THIS TUNE!" I expect.

I would recommend Spotify; there are hundreds of playlists on there under various categories, you're bound to find something

Another option would be to get search some of her favourite artists and add the top 10 songs to your own playlist, keep doing this till you have a few hours of music then random play the list.

Brilliant chaps. I thought to check the sonos for a 3.5mm jack, and Spotify premium works with it, and they have a 30 day free trial.

Sonos and spotify is a great combination especially for parties and background music, I pay the £10 per month, was thinking of cancelling it but now my mum uses my account more than me with a huge playlist of random stuff over the last 40 years. She gets quite put out when I kick her off so I can use it!
