It's really unusual isn't it? The part around 3.33 minutes in is just superb.

The only thing I've ever heard that comes close would be Tibetan Monks chanting, to a Western ear their stuff sounds quite coarse but you can hear the overtones, a bit like the Aboriginal didgeridoo.

She's really skilled at that though, thanks for the link.
