Where do I start?

Bias will be towards electronic stuff, not fussed about wonderful vocals, 'proper' instrument sounds, etc. Would like the ability to create samples, using the inbuilt microphone at first.

Are there any items of equipment/hardware that can be plugged in to give a more tactile means of fiddling with the noises?

I appreciate that this is probably very vague, but I haven't a clue as to where to start and suspect that the likes of Cubasis might be too complex for a total beginner.

I know I'd be better off using a real computer, etc, etc, but this is just for my daughter and I to have a bit of fun with - hence the requirement for simplicity.

I think the issue is the GUI. I've tried stuff on my Galaxy S3 and if the developer just creates a handheld version of a desktop sequencer or whatever then it means you have to borrow a toddler's fingers to control the software.

With that in mind, try this: http://www.blipinteractive.co.uk/

It's been made with iThings in mind. You can download the desktop version FOC and you'll quickly realise it wasn't designed for the desktop! IYSWIM.

Thanks. I've had a quick look and that should be good to start. Seems like I can get a plug in key board thing to go with it, which is nice.
