One of my heroes.
Wrote and recorded 'All Right Now' when he was 15!
RIP.
Said the fight to make ends meet
Keeps a man upon his feet
Holding down his job
Trying to show he can't be bought

Someone's looking for a lead
In his duty to a King or creed
Protecting what he feels is right

Absolutely - Free were the first band that I really got into. Loved the sound - and as Asterix says, the space they got to work in those early songs was fantastic. Kossoff's skill was aided by the sublime and steady work of Andy and Simon Kirke. Add the voice of Paul Rodgers, and it was brilliant blues rock.Edited by MikeT66 on Wednesday 18th March 12:36
The one I am "dreading" is Ritchie Blackmore going.
I really (really) don't want to get into the pro's and cons of Ritchie importance or comparisons with Mr Page Or Beck or Clapton etc.
It's just that Ritchie has been such a musical part of my life for so long I will feel it big time when he goes.
But it's a sign of your own ageing when you feel a pang when musicians go that have been part of your musical life.
I really (really) don't want to get into the pro's and cons of Ritchie importance or comparisons with Mr Page Or Beck or Clapton etc.
It's just that Ritchie has been such a musical part of my life for so long I will feel it big time when he goes.

Ha! Yes - Ritchie Blackmore - my favourite guitar god in my youth. Was extolling his skills to Mrs.T66 the other week, and as a comparison played Whitesnake's live version of 'Mistreated' and Rainbow's version from Rainbow On Stage. Great attack and fluidity in his style - and I have to say I love his tantrums.

Even during his ripping solo you can see the simmering anger towards the cameraman near Jon Lord - result? A soaked camera and cameraman. Apparently refused to join the others on stage initially, and only got on in time for his solo!!
