Hi all,

I want to buy my wife a digital piano and I'm stuck between these two, Yamaha CLP-575 & CVP-701. They are both around the same price I just can't decide which one.

I love the elegant look of the CLP but I like the features of the CVP, especially the mic input and recording you play / sing.

Can anyone help with my decision? As I say it's for my wife, but I would like to learn too, so in regards to the sound/feel of the piano I'm not much of an expert to tell which is better.

Also I have been offered £1869 for the CLP-575 in Polished Ebony, is this a good deal?

Thanks.

Hello,

Please don't purchase sight unseen - go and have a play on each of the models.

For me the most important feature is the feel of the keyboard (more piano like the better). I believe that the CLP-575 has NWX action which is slightly "better" than the GH3X on the CVP-701.

The CLP-575 is also quite a bit heavier which might be important.

Both are nice pianos!

I would recommend finding a store local where you can get a feel of the product, some advice and perhaps they can match any price you have been quoted.

Thanks for the replies, the problem is I want it to be a surprise so I'm having to make the choice for her.

I've seen both pianos this morning and had a play on both, but bear in mind I'm playing at a very basic level so not much to go on and I liked them both, couldn't really feel the difference myself.

Yes the 575 has NWX wood keys as opposed to the plastic with ivory coat

TBH I've got a fair bit of experience playing but I doubt I'd be able to really tell the difference.

But if it's about wooden keys, I'd go for them!

Luckily, it isn't real ivory.

Yes well pointed out, Ivory feel not genuine.

I suppose the biggest thing is all the extra features the YVP has, to get the NWX keys in the YVP I would have to upgrade to the 705, but that's over 3k, eek.

The only genuine ivory feel involves this:

Which is really off-putting when you're playing the piano!
