Boxsets, their place in a digital age.

My wife gave the Laid/Wah Wah boxset by James today and it's brilliant but got me thinking about it's place in a downloaded world. I love reading the sleeve notes, looking at the pictures and seeing what goodies are in the box and with everything being streamed these days the boxset and it's joys seem to be dying out.

Did any of you guys get a great collectors edition with all the extras today?

Currently they're still relevant and can see the appeal of owning something material but I think long term they'll become a thing of the past much like music CD's etc. Cloud based/streaming services are the future and with quicker download speeds means higher res formats will be more accessible.

I'm young enough to embrace many of the advantages of modern technology - but I like to think I'm wise enough to appreciate that in 30 years time I'm going to enjoy going through my CD collection and picking out an album that relates to a special moment in my life, and giving it a spin.

Maybe it's because I used to love looking through my Dad's records/CD's as a kid.

Of course the CD's might have degraded by then and not work... hopefully I'll still be able to get rewritable discs!
