Devastated is not the word. Motorhead released this statement a short time ago...
There is no easy way to say this…our mighty, noble friend Lemmy passed away today after a short battle with an extremely aggressive cancer. He had learnt of the disease on December 26th, and was at home, sitting in front of his favorite video game from The Rainbow which had recently made it’s way down the street, with his family.
We cannot begin to express our shock and sadness, there aren’t words.
We will say more in the coming days, but for now, please…play Motörhead loud, play Hawkwind loud, play Lemmy’s music LOUD.
Have a drink or few.

Sad News, at least he did not have to suffer for a long time.
Rest in a place where they crank it up and rip the knob off.
Saw Motorhead at Lausitzring 11 years ago, when Boehse Onkelz had their huuuge "Farewell" Open Air with Dragster Show.
Was in the pits at night, suddenly there were shouts from the pit lane LEMMYYYYY, LEMMYYYYYY and a bit of commotion.
Went to look and found some racers cheering and raising glasses upwards.
Looked up and Motorhead were half-naked, just got out of the showers in the "VIP Lounges Area" on top of the pit lane.
The organizers had not thought of the scene, inside it was bright, outside it was dark,
and there were no curtains or blinds in the impromptu "Backstage", large Windows provided good view.
Lemmy saw the fans, smiled and raised a glass before retreating to a spot somewhere out of view.

Also, lucky bugger getting to see Böhse Onkelz.
I first saw him with Hawkwind in early 1975, and have seen him many times since with Motorhead. I've also got a ticket to see them in the New Year. Over the last few years I always took the opportunity to see them if they were playing anywhere near me, because you never know if that will be the last time. It's the same with Sabbath. Today's the day when I realise that the last time I saw them really was the last time.
There have been some great gigs over the years - at Hammersmith when they were at their peak (deaf for 3 days afterwards), and at Hammersmith again for their 30th anniversary show, complete with the bomber.
I'm glad, and somewhat amazed, that he got to 70 (just), and carried on doing what he did until the end.

I was hoping to see Motorhead too but alas. Such a shame.
As others have said though he certainly lived! RIP.
