Encouraged by the Moon thread, which drummers come to mind for their sheer personality and skills.

Kick off with GENE KRUPA very sought after by most big names of the era 1920s/30s Jazz at its best.

Hugely underrated though, you only have to listen to other well respected drummer's opinions of him.

John Bonham, Neil Peart, Stewart Copeland are probably my favourites.

Taylor Hawkins should probably be on a list..

Topper Headon by a country mile,could change it up into whatever style(e). No two fills the same,superbly gifted,ex jazz drummer. Shame about the herion addiction but goes with the territory I guess. In fact if my taste in music didn't keep chopping and changing I'd say The Clash were right up there as well.

Speaking of which...if you haven't already heard/ seen 'The Winery Dogs' play.....you need to. Saw them earlier this year in Kentish Town, and hands down the best live show I've seen (and I've seen a few).


Also, though not a big fan, Tommy Lee has to be up there for personality alone.

I was thinking that as well. Neil Peart is a great drummer, but...personality?

Moon, Baker, Bonham are the three that spring to mind, although the 'personality' bit means someone you don't want to be around when they're drunk (or even sober, in Baker's case).

Matt Cameron - Soundgarden have some very interesting timing signatures.

Arejay Hale - seems a bit of a personality behind the kit, with some crowd pleasing antics.

Agreed, as well as playing style he always had 'that' bass drum tone that no band seems to be able to replicate.
Trying to think of other drummers that are more than technical beasts.

Check out 'Release It' if you can find it, his playing was tight.
