When was the last good Christmas song released?

Sat on holiday with girlfriend. Just listened to Wham - Last Christmas. Neither of us can get think of a good/better Christmas song that has come since. We must be missing something/lots. PH thoughts?

Demographics - both mid-late 30s.

Oasis dud a passable cover of Slade's finest work, slowed down to a more sensible level. IMHO the only really good ones are Fairytale of New York and Greg Lake's I Believe in Father Christmas. But then I am noted for my dislike of happy commercialised Christmas.

Well, I am slightly younger than you.

I am rather partial to The Darkness, but only because it isn't actually that good, and it doesn't get played much. Released 2003.

I also like the "All Alone on Christmas" which was featured in Home Alone 2 - recorded by the E Street band, came out 1992.

But not much else is that good IMO.

She'll give you Fairytale. I think it's overrated. We both thought it was older than Last Christmas. 87 vs 84 though. Greg Lake is mid 70s though.

I must admit the 80s was probably the last best era for Xmas songs. Lots of goodies from that decade.

I agree with the girlfriend - it's actually a bloody depressing song, but with the deft addition of some tubular bells and ill-advised puffa jackets, everyone thinks it's christmassy.

Light the Night from 2012 is the most modern Christmas song I have in my Christmas playlist.

Before that it was The Darkness.

This is true, it's about Tony Mortimer's brother's suicide.
Still, it was released at Christmas so it's "a Christmas song" as opposed to "a song about Christmas". So Happy Christmas
