Music taking you back in time

Never a massive fan of the Spice Girls and their 'work', but yesterday on the way into work, heard on the radio that on Monday evening, Robbie Williams and Emma Bunton had done '2 become 1' as a duet at a gig. They played a clip of it and about an hour later played the original version of '2 become 1' (Xmas Nr 1 - 1996 apparently).
As i said, never a massive fan back in the day, but i was a 13 year old boy when that song was released and lets just say Geri had a certain effect on me!....
However, listening to them on the radio really did bring back the memories for me - of long school holidays and stress-free days of no money worries or family worries and generally taking stuff for granted. Wouldn't change anything family wise now, happily married with 3 great kids and foster a great little baby too - but it'd be great just to nip back to 1996 for a few days, play a bit of roller hockey in the street, listen to the Spice Girls and Mark Morrison, drink a can of proper Mountain Dew and go watching the Manchester Storm back in their proper original home.
Anything do it for you? Really make you long for the 'olden' days?! Suppose for me this was the first time i've felt middle aged - this is like when i was a kid and my parents wanting to go back and watch the Bay City Roller or something!

About 20 years ago I dated a girl for about a month. It was one of those weird situations where she had a total hold over me and I felt like I was living in a bubble the whole time. The atmosphere for that month was bizarre. It was an increasingly toxic situation during which nothing much really happened but, for whatever reason, I was systematically deconstructed as a being. My family and friends all said I looked ill! Anyway, at the time I was wearing Polo Sport fragrance, which I had to throw away after it ended as I couldn't stand being taken back to the places I'd been with her by the aroma. A track called "Pass The Vibes" by Definition of Sound was getting a lot of airplay at the time. That song takes me right back there. I've moved on in the last 20 years, of course, so it's more fascinating than debilitating now when I listen to it and flirt with the notion of the weird mess that was in my head at the time. Still feel like I'm right back in the middle of it though!
There's something about the dance/garage music around 1998-2001-ish for me, I wasn't into music as such at the time as a 12 or so year old and listened to chart stuff. I'm sure there have been some in recent years that was just as popular, I certainly don't follow or listen to pop music but what I do hear isn't the same .
Looking at the dance charts from back then, almost every week was something you know really well, perhaps it's rose tints but most of it was actually good? On the rare occasion I hear something like Iio or whatever they were called, it's like its 2001 again.

I'm no longer the rock head I was in my teens, but heard Number of the beast by Iron Maiden on the radio a few weeks back and it sent a shiver down my spine. Not heard it since middle school in 1982 (had to google when the album came out!) and boy it brought back memories... mostly of my horrendous dress sense at the time, but hey...
Back when I was 16, my mum re-married and my new step-dad had a pretty big collection of vinyl. I was already into Gabriel-era Genesis and Marillion, but was curious about the tunes in my new step-dad's collection.
Basically, it was the start of a musical education, as it contained (amongst other things)

Sonny Terry & Brownie McGee
Deep Purple
The one album that really, really had an effect on me was :-
Whilst out shopping for Mrs V's last few bits and bobs earlier, I treated myself to a CD version of this.
