How to shorten a guitar strap.

It's on its shortest setting, but my son's guitar teacher says it needs to be shorter.

It's a nice strap and it matches the guitar well, so we don't want to bin it.

Any ideas please chaps?

I assume yr son is quite young and therefore small, and learning the guitar as a beginner?
Why does he need it? The teacher probably shouldn't have him standing up to learn.

Of course if it's an electric Strat shaped guitar they can be a bit loose on the knee because of their shape.

As the strap isn't leather I would suggest a fold of a few inches (make towards the end that goes on the back end of the guitar) get a needle n thread and make some temporary stitches then adjust as normal. These can be easily removed as he grows.

Sometimes younger students (if their feet don't touch the floor when they're sat down) struggle to stop the guitar slipping onto their and sliding off their lap!

I would think the teacher is trying to make the strap as short poss so that the guitar is in the correct position when he sits down and stays vertical.

I'd suggest buying a cheap £5 short strap as a make shift or a footstool to change the angle of his leg which should stop his guitar sliding down.

Also try to get him sitting with the guitar on his left leg (classical position)
