Y/N?

(perhaps this should be in The Lounge) - anyway:

I've begun to hate certain types of spoken word/rap which is, of course, only due my age. However for the sake of balance, is there anyone in the prime of their youth with a balanced and varied musical taste who feels the same?

After hearing Ms. Tempest's Glasto performance being re-broadcast on the 6Music, my thoughts are:

1) Drop the adopted lisp which you conjured up as a defence mechanism during your early school years
2) Stop using your stage performances as a platform for your therapy - we'd like to be entertained please
3) Come back with something which isn't negative and depressing

Am I *really* old now? (by the way, could you just turn that down a tad...a bit more please)

It's not just me then.

Radio 6 is occasionally blighted by this dross alas.

I'd never heard of her (but then like the poster I'm getting on a tad. However, I like to keep abreast of new talent if any appears (not very often I must add!).

I just listened to 'something', by her. Was just natter in poor accent - fk knows what it was? She couldn't compete with the Wurzels! (just my honest opinion. You might not agree.
However, the Guardian (that ste paper that makes the Wail look normal!) says this on a poster about her 'current?' tour...

'Kat Tempest absorbs the agonies of the modern world and pours them into 'music' (really, you call this 'music' Guardianista hack whoever wrote that?) that both 'wounds' (I'll give you that!) and heals (really?).

Sold out in some areas?
Jeezus f Christ, am I sooooo lucky to have been a 60s teen! Wouldn't have missed it for anything (and the 70s, even the 80s).
There was, I admit the odd dross then but stuff like this, it would have been boo'ed off the stage (if it could have got as far as a stage in the first place!)

Having never heard of her, I - of course - had to search YT.

She's not exactly Aretha Franklin, is she?

It's not for me - her older stuff was ok, her newer stuff should be written word not 6 Music A-list playlist.

There’s not much on 6Music that I have to turn down or off but her new stuff is just that...awful.

And also Iggy’s James Bond song.

Nearly 30 years of going to gigs and I have only ever walked out of one before it had finished, due to me not enjoying it.

Kate Tempest at The Rescue Rooms in Nottingham.

I prefer entertainment to grumpy political guff.

I saw her at End Of The Road Festival the other weekend, she was drafted in after Beirut dropped out.

I gave her ten minutes of my time, before deciding it was, in the inimitable words of Paul Calf, a 'bag o ste', and went and found somebody who didn't sound like fingers being dragged down a blackboard.

Performance poetry, if that's what you call it, really ain't my bag.

Saw her live a few years back in Leeds and she was very good. However I do find her new stuff preachy. Its important topics/stories/tales, but they are not music.

I agree on both counts.

Awful.
