The Future Of Rock / Metal. I'm Worried!

I need reassurance!
I have been into rock / heavy rock / metal since the early to mid 1980's (my mid-teens), and especially after I discovered Alan 'Fluff' Freeman's Rock Show on Radio 1.
But now I am worried about the future of rock.
In recent years several of my favourite bands have gone (or as good as).
A few examples being;
Motorhead (for obvious reasons)
AC/DC (Angus and friends, as it has become)
Status Quo (Not keen on the accoustic stuff, and now no Rick Parfitt)
Saxon, W.A.S.P., Scorpions, Iron Maiden, ZZ Top etc. are no spring chickens and I can't see them being around for that much longer.
There dosn't seem to be many bands coming up to 'replace' them that really do it for me (although I do quite like Airbourne and The Temperance Movement), or maybe I've just not been looking hard enough.
I love going to good old noisy rock gig (seeing W.A.S.P. (again) in October) but I'm worried that they'll become few and far between in the future.
Anyone else in the same boat as me?
Or has anyone got any suggestions for newer bands that I might not be aware of that I should check out and carry on rocking to?

Airbourne is a good shout but coming from a similar era as yourself I would say listen less to Planetrock and switch to Kerrang. There are a lot of good rock bands out there.

Nothing to add, but wasn't it Tommy Vance who did the Friday night rock show in the 80s? "TV play that rock'n'roll!" Fluff was a Saturday night in the 70s

I do flick between Planet Rock and Kerrang, or sometimes absolute Classic Rock (although I'm unlikely to discover much new stuff there!).Volbeat

The thing I sometimes find with Kerrang is they play too much American teeny garagey sounding bands that all sound the same to me!
I have seen Rival Sons at a festival and I did enjoy them.
I've not heard of the other bands so I'll check them out, thanks for the suggestions!

Yes, you're correct, it was Tommy Vance on the friday night Rock Show, then from sometime in 1989 (as well as in the '70s) Fluff did the saturday night Rock Show. Some nostalgia for you

The "Heavier" scene is actually in rude health now, and rock and metal is becoming exciting again. It's just waiting to get forward. Gallows almost single handily dragged it back well into the mainstream, but line up change brought that to a halt! Only problem is it certainly takes more from hardcore (and Motorhead to be fair!) etc. than from the bands you've mentioned. It all goes in cycles though so give it a few more years...

Friday and Saturday night with Tommy Vance! Yup remember it well and my first introduction to proper music outside the limited R1 dirge we could only get back then (firmly repaired when I spend 6 years in the US) Teamrock was always a good shout when it still existed with a good mix of heavier rock (Rammstein/Slayer/Pantera) and classic rock. You are also on the money with Kerrang though when I am working I find it a good blend (Cowboys from hell in the background while in a Lync conf call is a bit much

Friday night 10pm when your tuner would get a stereo signal on FM as Radio 1 went into stereo for a couple of hours.We've got a demo coming up from this bunch of lads from East London called Iron Maiden, the lead singer is Paul Di'anno.
Two hours a week you were limited to back then,now we've been spoilt!

I can't help feeling a bit sad that young'uns now don't have those special little things to look forward to like we did.
Friday 10pm was an event I'd be looking forward to all week. It just made things like that, sort of, more special!

Feelings are similar to the OP. Been into rock/metal since late 70s as a kid. Was at the last ever Sabbath gig at NEC, sad day. Maiden still rock but yes great bands like AC/DC etc are about done. Seen Airbourne about 4 times, great live band. Also check out the Answer (although latest album is a bit of an acquired taste). I still love Smashing Pumpkins, Janes Addiction, Fu Manchu, Screaming Trees, Monster Magnet, Kyuss. Try some if you haven't heard them. Frank Carter is quite full on punky rock. I love Rival Sons too btw. The Cult are still making music and are decent. Wolfmother are back together for recent album. Kings of Leon and Foo Fighters rock and I still enjoy Steel Panther (great live too).
We're off to see WASP in September, always seem to go and see them when they're on tour, which seems to be about every other year. Blackie certainly isn't as animated as he used to be. Then we're off to see Five Finger Death Punch in December. Rock/metal is still alive and well, you just need to keep an ear out for something that piques your interest.
Our issue is we used to either pick it from friends or from Scuzz/Kerrang TV but friends have dispersed so we don't meet up as much or share as much musically, more catching up on what's happening and we don't have the TV channels any more. As mentioned Team Rock was quite good for a variety and I'm sure there are plenty of internet radio stations that would open up a number of new artists, just a case of finding them.

Its definitely becoming more niche but I think at the last count Planet Rock had a million listeners so its still a big niche. I really got into Rock/Metal in the late Eighties listening to Tommy Vance on Friday and Fluff on Saturday, I suspect Radio 1 has changed rather radically since then!

ker.Volbeat and Alter Bridge are sensational live by the by - brilliant. Although Myles Kennedy looks a tad shy when on stage.
