city of prague philharmonic orchestra
Discussion
folks,
couple of questions:
in terms of CoPPO, and other well-known philharmonics, whenever they cover (in the absence of a more suitable word) a composition, do they add their own flourishes or is it strictly as per how the original was created?
Also, does anyone know how often they host sessions in the opera house or smecky music studios?
I've checked both the CoPPO official site and the studio official site and neither seems to have been updated since January this year?
You won't need to read this far to know that I'm not cultured, I've simply started listening to some of the orchestras recent film score compositions and as well as being very powerful it's also deeply moving,I'd love to see some of it live.
Thanks

I can only answer your first question.
An orchestra's interpretation of a given piece of music is purely at the discretion of the principal conductor (PH'er ANiceCupOfTea would elaborate). But, essentially for example, all of the musicians in the Berlin Philharmonic will be top drawer, but how they play - say - Mahler's 5th Symphony would have depended on whether Claudio Abbado was conducting or Simon Rattle.

Taking it further you could hear the same piece by the same orchestra and conductor again the following night and it will be very slightly different,in terms of tempo.
Orchestras in the UK play very stylishly, in the USA can be very bright (brash) sounding, in France they tune slightly higher than our concert
A of 440 (444).
Conductors create the interpretation.
Here’s a clip of a famous trumpeter (who taught myself and Nice cup of tea at music college) disagreeing with Leonard Bernstein is conducting .

Film scores are a good way into classical music. Don’t worry too much about who is playing them, enjoy the music.

All these tunes are open to interpretation and if you listen to different versions of a piece it can be quite noticeable. It's about the accent or tempo or bringing part of the orchestra more into play (or less).think of cover versions in say a rock song.
Take Andrea Roux for example, successful as he is, I find the interpretation a bit bland and, to me anyway, he effectively bundles through the tunes, very well, but missing some little. Nuances.
Tomorrow morning, New Year's Day, there's usually a live news years day concert from Vienna on BBC1 always worth a watch either live, depending on hangover, or on iplayer.
Give it a go.
