Jeff Beck docu on BBC iPlayer

Pretty good programme about Jeff Beck currently on BBC - there are half a dozen people who would deserve their own doc (Clapton. Jimmy Page, David Gilmour among them) who are all talking about Jeff, and even if you're not into his music he's had a varied and interesting career. One of the best bits of footage his him lying back on a sofa playing guitar with someone else on acoustic, and his touch is perfect!

I love Jeff's work

He's one of those guitar players where, given a plank of wood fitted with a couple of strings, you could still tell it was Beck playing it.

Should be watched by everyone who thinks the brand of guitar and amp is more important than what goes on in your head and hands.

I dare say I'm a bit older than many who post here, so I may not surprise you by saying that I saw Beck/Stewart/Woods/Waller play at the Marquee in Wardour Street in the sixties. To say that I was impressed would be an understatement.

It is extraordinary how Beck seems to draw an entirely personal sound out of his very fingertips. And I have always been fond of the way that he doesn't seem capable of getting through a number without some quirky phrase, just to remind us all not to take it all too seriously. I still have a 45 rpm copy of his second single, Tallyman, that is cut at such a volume it threatens to do damage to any audio system should you be brave enough to play it.

I thought it was a much better documentary than I expected. I hope they do the same with Albert Lee in future.

An Albert one would be superb. They’d need three hours to squeeze in everyone who’d want to be interviewed. Interesting that Albert and Beck were both inspired by Cliff Gallup and James Burton and took it to two entirely different directions.
