Quite varied. My MP3 player has a lot of Stranglers stuff (OK, virtually everything, in album order, with some B-sides at the end), Savages, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Pet Shop Boys, Eighth Wonder, Gary Numan, Al Stewart, Eagles, loads of varying stuff that I've forgotten about.

But no rap / hip-hop. Have to draw a line somewhere.

I like to think quite varied.

Most of my "favourited" videos on YouTube are music, and it doesn't include any modern pop, C & W, rap, or R 'n B.

Most other genres are covered.

I'm as likely to listen to a Chopin "Nocturne" as I am to a bit of Slayer or Soundgarden.

What I enjoy playing on guitar is an entirely different matter altogether. Earlier this evening, I was playing "I Will Survive" followed by "Got To Get Better In a Little While"

My taste is much more vaired, I like artists from the whole alphabet, not just the second half.

But seriously,

Kraftwerk, Talking Heads, Toots and the Maytals, Paul Simon, The Specials, The Beastie Boys, Nu, X Ray Specs, Ellie Goulding, Delia Derbyshire, Blur, Death in Vegas, Blondie, Portishead, Jem, LFO, Ladytron..... I could go on.

Not Oasis though.

I can't understand how anyone could restrict themselves to
any kind of musical appreciation.
But then being born in the early 50's and experiencing the ever changing tastes, styles ,influences etc,
certainly has had it's advantages

Old school 90s happy hardcore, early 2000s trance, oasis, stone roses, modern country music, belinda carlisle, fleetwood mac, the kinks, ska, punk. Dont know if I'm coming or going sometimes.
Has to be hardcore for breakfast though.

I go through periods of liking different things, I listen to it for a few months then switch to something else. The only thing I don't listen to really is classical.

I listen to virtually everything apart from chart-type pop and classical. I certainly wouldn't rule out embracing the latter at some point in the future.

I still listen to a lot of the stuff I enjoyed 20+years ago. I like a lot of electronic music from that period right through to the current stuff. Hard Rock/Heavy Metal has also been a constant, right through from the really early stuff to brand new releases.

Jazz is a relatively recent addition, and I have built up quite a collection of that now as well. I can quite easily be listening to some fast drum & bass on my commute back from work and then put a jazz record on as soon as I get home.

I think your taste tends to get wider as you get older.

There was a time where I wouldn't listen to anything outside a narrow remit, but I can see value and enjoy far more styles these days.

Rap still leaves me cold and I'm still lost as to the appeal of Prog Rock and the like (Public School Rock, a la Pink Floyd/Genesis/etc).

I guess I still like guitars and electronic based music best, but, for example, I really like a lot of Reggae now, where once I wouldn't dream of listening to it.

My music collection goes from 10CC to Working Week (I must get something by X-Wife, Yellow Magic Orchestra and Za! ), but I'm doubtful that that's really any kind of reliable indicator!

Queen and Sheryl Crow at the quiet end of the scale upto Metallica and Anthrax at the heavy end of the scale.

The only things I don't listen to are drum and bass and country and western really - at least those are the only genres where I can think of literally nothing I like. Probably the heaviest end of rock - thrash, speed metal, that sort of thing too.

Turning my iphone on and hitting shuffle and skipping 10 times by way of an experiment produces

1). Fancy footwork - Chromeo
2). Sunday Girl - Blondie
3). This old heart of mine - isely brothers
4). Athlete - New Project
5). Elbow - One day like this
6). She - Elvis Costello cover not the original
7). The Who - It's not enough
8). Lady Gaga - PAparazzi
9). Blink 182 - She's out of her mind
10). Foo Fighters - Rope


So I guess there is something of a bias evident - but there is also stuff like Abba, Jay-Z and some 200 odd pieces of classical and opera kicking around on there too.

Think we were split at birth! :-) Exactly the choices i was going to make. My father hammered Chopin into me as a kid and it's really stuck with me, and i'm glad it has.
Yet i quite happily sauntered away down to Donnington in 91 to see ACDC, Black Crowes etc!
Also a huge Soundgarden fan, really miss Chris! :-(
