Dirty Mac - the first supergroup? Lennon/Keef/Clapton/Mitch

Great Lennon track performed by Gods! From the Rock&Roll Circus, around 1968/9. Okay, they only did this one event but was this the first Supergroup? I can't think of any before, others might.

Cream formed in 1966. I can't think of an earlier supergroup than them.

Cream were a new group were they not? I always thought a Supergroup were members of a defunct band grouping together.

I guess The Faces were such?

Plus, at the time of the R&R Circus, the Beatles and the Jimi Hendrix Experience were still going

There is the small matter of the "Million Dollar Quartet" in '56
Elvis, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins.
Catch is the music they recorded didn't get released until much later.

I thought the definition of a Supergroup was that all/most of its members were already famous from previous bands.

But what I really wanted to say was that is a great performance, I had never heard it before, so thank you OP for posting it!

You're probably right. Lennon did some great stuff once freed from the Fabs.

The Who blew all the other bands away at that event, that was the reason that the Stones didn't release the footage officially until relatively recently.
