Sad news. Saw Buzzcocks at Brighton Top Rank in about 1980/81. They played a great set but wouldn't come on for an encore, and the crowd rewarded them by clearing the stage of equipment. The image of a guy trying to get up the stairs with a snare drum concealed under his long coat is still with me.

I saw them at the Southampton Top Rank in 1978. After about 4 encores they kicked their amps over to say enough.
Afterwards they came out and chatted to the young fans milling around. I still have Steve Diggles autograph from that night. Agree about "Autonomy" but "Moving Away from the Pulse Beat" gives it a run for its money.

I am in no way a massive fan but loved their songs as a teenager. Because of the news this week I have been listening to Singles Going Steady this evening. The Buzzcocks were never punk; just fantastically written and arranged songs with an acute sense of they knew exactly what they were doing.

Had tickets to see The Buzzcocks next spring. The one major punk band I'd missed. I suppose they'll either try to shoehorn in Devoto or cancel. RIP Pete.

Pete Shelley was one of the pioneers.

I was never into Punk, and at that time was a mod / ska / 2-tone fan.
But, I know he had a massive influence and was a talented bloke, so it's sad to hear he has passed in such a tragic way......
