I work for a music publisher/agency and we're having to be ridiculously careful over possible copyright 'infringements' now, since the Gaye vs. Thicke/Williams thing everyone is out to try it on. It's absolutely not about protecting IP and entirely motivated by making an easy bit of cash.

Before everyone goes pitchforks ready for the Gaye estate - it's not his estate suing, but the co-writers (Ed Townsend)

Part of their accusation involves a video clip of Ed Sheeran blending the two tunes, live at one of his concerts and switching between the 2 songs. Bet his lawyers were happy when they heard that.
