Paul Raymond RIP

Sadly died at the w/e Great skills as a keyboardist, rhythm guitarist, backing vocalist and songwriter and a key part of the UFO sound (and its descendants MSG and Waysted). Released half a dozen solo albums, my personal fav being Virtual Insanity. Only met him once, but seemed a real gent. RIP.

Is that the Paul Raymond who played with Savoy Brown? Actually, must be. The only other Paul Raymond I can think of is the randy night club owner and he's long dead!

It was almost the old Chicken Shack line up (he played with them after Chris McVie left for the Mac).

I can't remember if Raymond was with Savoy Brown when Train to Nowhere was released? Probably not, 1969 was too early. Christ, that record used to blow the bar apart nearly in the Oranges and Lemons pub on the Plain in Oxford (sorry, bit off topic if he wasn't with them then. Long time ago!)

Another sad loss to the music industry, only saw UFO (with Paul) a couple of weeks ago and they were still as good as the first time I saw them in the early 80's. Seemed to me to be too early for them to call it a day finally but I think this will probably be it, just lucky to have seen them quite a few times.

Always thought that Paul was an utterly integral part of the classic UFO sound and decades after moving on from listening to rock UFO were the only band of this genre I kept coming back to.

Guess the legacy of playing on the best live album ever (Strangers in the Night) recorded is a pretty strong one, think this track best shows how good he was: RIP
