Help identify what this sounds like! Driving me insane!

Help!
This is driving me insane!

Every since I heard Carrie Underwood - Before He Cheats I can't get out of my head how similar the little snippet from 39 seconds to 50 seconds sounds to … something else. It will likely be indie/rock, probably from the 90's -00's … but I can't for the life of me find what it is. It probably doesn't help that the opening verses could be replaced with Wonderwall by Oasis.

So, any suggestions please?!?!?

Thanks for the suggestions. Can definitely hear elements of all of those in Carrie's song ... but still not whatever it is I have in mind. I'm sure it's some angsty guitar rock ballad. I'll have to work my way through Nickelback, Staind, Puddle Of Mudd, etc. in the hope I find it.
