Looper pedal?

I had a bit of a play with a Zoom G1on guitar pedal yesterday. I bought it as a gift for someone else but had a go to decide whether I want one myself.

I don’t, most of what it does I already have a pedal that does better, but I did have a play with the loop function and now I want a looper pedal.

It’s just for my amusement so I am not going to spend hundreds - is there any need to look beyond the Boss RC-1?

I'm not expert but I guess it depends on what you want to use it for? Noodling at home, playing live, being creative, a practice tool?

I got a used mini looper pedal (Donner/ Moore/ something like that) for £20 locally off Facebook, and they are only about £40-50 new. Mine sounds fine and works perfectly.

If you want the ability to store loads of loops then BOSS make a posher model. And now they also have the RC10 which has drums loops and clever quantizing. Some pedals are also supposed to sound better than others. That Pedal Show YouTube channel did an episode on loopers last week.

It's just for my own entertainment, not for gigs or recording. I'm thinking the cheapest Boss model might be the obvious choice.

Yes, the ditto seems to be the alternative choice.

I have, however, ordered.

I have upsold myself, because the RC-3 was on offer. I don't think I really needed it, but had that nagging feeling that I might regret buying the most basic one.

I've got an RC-3 and love it to bits for noodling around at home. Useful for recording riffs and phrases as they occur to you; I'm great at composing bits of music then forgetting what it was the next day!

I've also got an Octaver pedal so I can add a bit of a bass line, now looking for a basic drum machine to add a bit of rhythm.

I have a Ditto and for noodling around having fun it’s fine, not the most sophisticated bit of kit though!

I’ve had an rc20, a pigtronix infinity, and an rc3, so all the price points.

I recommend the rc3 as others have. Anything more expensive has functionality you will never need or that can be done way better with a usb audio interface and free recording software.

It arrived today, and I've unboxed it and had a little play around with it. Great fun, I can see I will waste enormous amounts of time messing with it!
