Please understand the definition of POP song before your suggestion....also your suggestion needs to be personal to YOU rather than googling greatest pop songs and suggesting the one at number 1....probably the Beatles!

I’m lucky enough to have lived through 5 decades of music and dj’ing a LOT of pop music in that time. Close contenders where Wham - Club Tropicana, Pharrell Williams - Happy, Squeeze - Cool For Cats, ..so ladies and gentlemen...my greatest ever pop song....

Pulp - Common People

Where to start - Blue Monday is a good shout, but is it POP? Don't you Want Me, Tainted Love are in there but I'm going to go for:

New Song - Howard Jones

Pure POP at it's best!

John Peel always said the perfect pop song ever made was Teenage Kicks by The Undertones, and I don't think he was far off.

As a left-field choice I rate The Scissor Sisters: I Don't Feel Like Dancin', and Katy Perry: Last Friday Night (TGIF)

Neither very PH... boxedin

Yes....it doesn’t have to be a GREAT song! A lot of irony comes into play with pop music.

I don’t think Blue Monday is pop although it is an amazing song. I think there will be a lot of classic 80’s suggestions....the decade of pop?

You’re right about Teenage Kicks...similar to my Pulp suggestion in a few ways.

I do like a guilty pleasure too!

Wham! - 2 greatest pop songs, one for 11 months of the year (Club Tropicana), the other for December (Last Christmas)

I had Wham, but 'wake me up before you gogo' as the perfect pop song, although Cllub Tropicana is another great shout. smile

He wasn't known as the King of Pop for nothing. Pretty much any of his chart hits could be regarded as one of the greats.....

.....so I'll pluck Jeepster, T. Rex as my first choice!

I prefer "Thorn In My Side" as good pop.

Surely something from Abba? Super Trooper or Take a chance on me come to mind.

Although i do like Disco 2000 as modern pop.
