8 D music

Quite cool, though a bit gimmicky with the speed of transition.

Would be quite cool if you could set it up as a virtual studio. Similar to a VR headset, if you could set certain speakers to be at certain locations in a room & move as your haed rotates.

Hadn't heard of 8D music until I saw this thread. Just checked some out expecting to have my mind blown. Basically sounds like an A-level music student just discovered autopan and is now going berserk with it.

Strikes me as a gimmick that'll be used to death - like those picture-in-picture effects that were hideously overused in movies when it first emerged in the 1960s - and will then die a very welcome death, and not a minute too soon.

ETA:
Just found an Enya song that I'm very familiar with. Basically sounds like the whole mix is in mono and being autopanned as one... when it goes to one side the ear on the other side feels a bit empty. I'm struggling to understand why anyone would think this is an improvement.

Sounds great. But it's just spacial reverb, so not a new idea. But it does sound good.

not sure what all the fuss is about. a progressive band called "tesseract" actually released an album a few years ago with a standard cd and a "4d" cd in the same pack that was intended for headphones only. the guitarist specifically remastered it for the second disc and while not as dramatic as that 8d clip (i understand that it was done to showcase the effects) similar effects were being used. and this was a few yeas ago too..
